> James W. “Jim” Head a proud US Marine who witnessed the flag raising on Iwo Jima during World War II; passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Thursday Dec. 5th, 2019 at John C. Lincoln hospital at
> the age of 94.
> Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Norma, and six of their children, Marcia Mikovich (Gary) of Erie, PA; David Head of Yuma, AZ; Michael Head of Omaha, NE; Michael Kelly (Joy) of New River, AZ;
> Timothy Kelly (Kelly) of Phoenix, AZ; Kimberly Kelly of Phoenix, AZ; 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Marie Wingerter Head
> in 1963 and his daughter Kathleen Baldwin in 1977.
> Jim was born July 27, 1925 in Schenectady, NY to Clair and Allene Head. They moved to Erie, PA when Jim was very young and lived in Lawrence Park where Jim Attended Lawrence Park High School. Jim’s
> education was interrupted in 1943 when he enlisted in the Marines during World War II. Jim was very proud to be a Marine and of his service in the USMC. He also was proud to tell us about being on the island
> of Iwo Jima when the flag was raised after the island was secured. He was honored to be selected in 2013 to fly on Honor Flight AZ to visit Washington D.C. and see the memorials from all of the wars; and also
> to have flown over the Arizona capitol in a B17G Sentimental Journey on December 7, 2017.
> Jim moved to Arizona in 1964 after the death of his first wife. Here he began his working career at Air Research in Phoenix and retired in 1987 from Allied Signal as a contract administrator.
> Jim enjoyed building and flying radio controlled airplanes; and playing pool at the ELKS Lodge with his many friends. He also enjoyed spending summers with his wife Norma at their summer home in Munds Park, AZ
> A Celebration of Life will be held at All Saints Lutheran Church 15649 N 7th St, Phoenix, AZ 85022 on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 11:00 am
> In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s memory to All Saints Lutheran Church or to a charity of your choice.
